How to use Jumpball

Coaching hub Β· pick who you are

Coaches: your first 10 minutes

Everything happens in your web browser at jumpball.com.au. Nothing to install, and the same login works on your phone, laptop and iPad. The bottom bar is your map: Home Β· Plan Β· Drills Β· Team Β· Insights Β· More.

  1. Create your account. Tap Create an account, use your own email and a password of at least 8 characters, then click the link in the confirmation email and sign in. Coaches aged 16 or 17 choose that option at sign-up and a parent or guardian confirms by email before the account opens.
  2. Let the wizard set up your team. On Home, tap Set up my team – guided, 3 minutes. It asks four things: the team (name, age group, level, usual session length), the players (one per line, first name and initial, then optionally the family email, the parent's first name and the jersey number, like Mila C, sarah@example.com, Sarah, 7), the season (start date, number of weeks, your usual training day, time and venue – it creates a ready-to-edit session for every week), and finally Publish team page. Not sure yet? Try a sample team first gives you a full pretend team to poke around in; Remove the sample takes it away again without touching anything of yours.
  3. Send families the link. Tap Team, then Players, then βœ‰ Send team page link. Tick the families, then either βœ‰ Send from the site (the email comes from noreply@jumpball.com.au with replies to you) or Or open my mail app. WhatsApp and text-message options are there too.
  4. Plan each week. Tap Plan. Each week has + Add; an empty week can be filled with ⟲ Same as last week. Open πŸ—“ Season planner to give each week a focus, and new sessions in that week pick it up automatically.
  5. Take attendance at training. Open today's session and use the βœ… Attendance – tap who's here card: tap names, or Everyone's here. Under Who's coming, Use "Going" as the attendance list saves you the tapping. Full review (ratings and notes) is there when you want it.
  6. Game day. Open the game and tap πŸ“‹ Game-day sheet: opponent, time, venue with a map link, arrive-by and what to bring, your non-negotiables and keys to the game, starting five and bench, scorers, who's coming, and blank score and half-time boxes. Print it for the bench. The Home tile πŸ† Next game jumps straight to it.
  7. Talk to the team. Team, then Chat. Every training and game also has its own chat and a Who's coming list on its page, and families see the same thread under that event.
  8. Add other coaches or a manager. Team settings (top right of the Team page), then Coaches on this team: type their email, choose Head coach, Assistant coach or Team manager, Add, Save. They must create their account with that exact email.
Two habits. On a shared computer set a PIN under More (4 to 8 digits; if you forget it the only way back is clearing the site's data, which clears the app too). And every few weeks, More, then Export backup.

The team page: what families get, and the switches you control

The team page is the private link families open. It shows notices, the schedule with Going / Maybe / Can't make it, the team chat, and your playbook. All of its switches live under Team, then Playbook (the Share with players and parents and Schedule cards) and under Team, then Chat (Team chat settings).

SwitchWhat it does
Team chat and commentsFamilies and players can post in the team chat and under each event. Off makes the page read-only.
Parents and guardians onlyFor under-16 teams. Players can read the chat but only parents and guardians can post. The page asks each person whether they are a parent or the player, and the database refuses posts from anyone else.
Email copies of chat messagesEvery 15 minutes, new messages are emailed (BCC) to the family contacts on your player list. On by default. Keep it on for junior teams: it is what parents of a 16–17 year old coach are promised.
Day-before remindersAt 5 pm the day before a training or game, families who haven't replied get an email, and any device with notifications on gets a nudge. On by default.
Player pagesEach family sees their own player's attendance, your latest skill ratings, your note to the family, and the player can rate themselves 1 to 5. Write the note under Team, Players, the player, Edit, Note to the family. Anyone with the link can pick any name, so keep notes positive and general.
Automatic scoring rosterTwo families per game, shared evenly, never the same family twice on a day. Your own picks (πŸ–Š Scorers for this game on the game page) are kept. Tick Coach's or manager's family – leave out of the scoring roster on a player to exempt them.
Stop sharingKills the link at once. Publish again for a brand-new link if one leaks.

Drills, plays and the play maker

Draw a play in 30 seconds

  1. Drills β†’ πŸ€ Create a play. Pick a formation from Start from… (5-out, Horns, Box, baseline or sideline inbound, a press break…) or add pieces one at a time with + Add…. Pieces can stand outside the lines, so an inbounder goes behind the baseline.
  2. + Step, then drag the pieces to where they go next. Faint copies show where they were, and the arrows draw themselves: solid for a cut, zigzag for a dribble, dashed for a pass, a bar for a screen.
  3. Pass or shoot: drag the ball onto a player, or tap a player twice. Drag the ball to the ring for a shot. The step chips show πŸ€ who has the ball and warn you if nobody does.
  4. Write a one-line note per step (players see it during playback), then β–Ά Preview. On a phone, a full court opens zoomed to the near end; use the Court picker for the far end or the whole floor.

Drills holds your library and the community library. Filter with πŸ€ Animated, β–Ά Video and β˜… Favourites. Twenty-eight standard plays and systems are built in and animated: Horns, Flex, UCLA, pick and roll, 5-out, 4-out, Pistol, zone offence, BLOBs and SLOBs, shell, 2-3, 3-2 and 1-3-1 zones, primary and secondary breaks, transition defence, the 1-2-1-1 and 2-2-1 presses and more.

The Plays tab

Drills β†’ πŸ€ Plays files every play by situation: half-court offence, offence vs zone, transition, baseline inbound (BLOB), sideline inbound (SLOB), after time-out, man-to-man defence, zone defence, press and trap, press break. The starter plays are filed from their names; set the Situation on your own plays when you edit them (it also lets you re-file a starter play).

On a play's page

  • β–Ά Play with Normal, Slow or One step at a time – the last is best for talking a group through it.
  • πŸ‘₯ Show with … players puts your players' jersey numbers (or the first letters of their names) on the circles. It is saved for that team only and carries onto the team page and the printed version.
  • ⇋ Mirror saves a copy run to the other side of the floor. πŸ–¨ Print / PDF makes a clean page with one picture per step and the notes – save it as a PDF to share.
  • ⧉ Duplicate gives an editable copy; + Team playbook adds it to the team's playbook page; + Add to a session puts it into a training.

Plays in a training

On a session page, πŸ€ Add a play lists your plays by situation and adds one with a single tap. Any play with a diagram then shows on the team page under that training as Play to learn, animated, so players can look at it before they arrive. This covers trainings in the next four weeks.

The development pathway – a season planned in one go

Plan β†’ 🧭 Build the season pathway. It reads the team's latest skill assessments (or uses the usual starting point for the age group if there are none), picks the weakest skills as the season's priorities (you can change them), and asks how you want to play on offence and defence. Preview shows every week: the two skills being worked on and their stage, the team concept, and which days get a session. Create the sessions fills every training day with a full session – welcome, warm-up, two skill blocks, the team concept, a themed scrimmage – each block a real drill from your library with the coaching cues for that stage.

  • Stages. Every skill steps up through four stages (beginning, developing, solid, advanced). A skill moves up after about three weeks of focus, so the drills get harder as the season goes.
  • Plays when ready. Plays from your playing style are introduced only once the skills they need have reached the right stage, then revisited two weeks later, then installed under pressure. Concepts the team will not reach this season are listed, not forced.
  • Each player. Players with an assessment get two focus skills, a homework drill and two goals (shown on their page and to the family).
  • Re-plan after new assessments: weeks already done stay as they are; the coming weeks adjust.
  • ✨ AI, if you want it. When your library has no drill for a skill at a stage, the AI can draft one into your library, clearly marked, for you to read before use. Leave it unticked and those blocks carry the stage cues instead.

Players, notes and your own records

  • Team notes on a player are shared with your assistant coaches and, for club teams, the club.
  • πŸ”’ My private notebook on a player is yours alone: never shared with assistants, the club or the team page. It saves as you type.
  • Second parent contact: each player can carry two family contacts. Both get the link and the chat copies.
  • πŸŽ“ My accreditations (under More): course or clearance, level, issuer, completed and expiry dates. Names and dates only, no card numbers. Home warns you 90 days before anything expires. In a club you can choose to share the status (current / expiring / expired) with the club.
  • πŸ”” Notifications (under More): get told about new team messages on this device. Each device is switched on separately; iPhone and iPad must be added to the Home Screen first.

Team managers: keep the times and venues right

As team manager you look after the schedule. You can change dates, times and venues, add or remove trainings and games you created, import the association's draw, and run the scoring roster. You never see the coaches' plans, notes or player records. Anything you change appears in the coach's app and on the team page straight away.

Switches you can set for the coach

On your team's page you can turn on the automatic scoring roster and ⏱ Fair playing time. Fair playing time gives the coach a bench clock on every game that tracks each player's minutes on the court and flags who is behind – handy for junior and school teams.

Getting in

  1. Wait for the invite. The coach adds your email to the team and sends you an invite. Use exactly that email address.
  2. Create your account at jumpball.com.au with that email and a password of at least 8 characters. Click the link in the confirmation email, then sign in.
  3. Find your team. It is on your home screen marked Team manager. Tap it.

Keeping the schedule right

  1. Each training and game is a row with a date, time and venue. Change any box and it saves by itself.
  2. A padlock means the coach added that item and only the coach can remove it. Use + Training or + Game to add new ones; anything you add, you can remove.
  3. – Import fixtures takes a whole draw at once: paste it from Basketball Connect, the association's site or an email, or load an ICS or CSV file. Check the preview, then Import selected. Games already in the schedule are updated, not duplicated.
  4. πŸ–Š Automatic scoring roster shares scoring between families, two per game, never the same family twice on a day. The coach's own picks are kept.

The team page

Tap Open team page to see what families see. Under each training and game it shows who has said Going, Maybe or Can't make it, who hasn't replied, and who is scoring. That is your attendance view. You can post in the team chat there under your own name, and pass the link on with Send link to players & parents or Copy link.

If the coach has not published the team page yet, your screen says so. Ask the coach to tap Team, then Chat, then Publish the team page.

Also a coach yourself?

The same account does both. Your own teams appear as normal and the team you manage sits beside them marked Team manager. No second login, no separate link.

Something not working?

Sign out and back in once. If your team is still not showing, the coach needs to check that the email on the team matches your sign-in email exactly.

Parents and players: one link, no app, no login

The coach sends you a private link to your team page. It works in any web browser on any phone or computer. There is no account to create and no password to remember. Keep the link within the team: anyone who has it can see the schedule and the chat.

Getting started

  1. Open the link and save it: on an iPhone tap Share, then Add to Home Screen; on Android tap the three dots, then Add to Home screen. It then sits with your other apps.
  2. Say who you are. The page asks Who are you? Pick your player's name (or type it). On junior teams it also asks whether you are a Parent / guardian or The player. The page remembers this on that device.
  3. Two tabs at the top. Team is the day-to-day page: notices, the schedule, the chat and your player's page. Playbook is the coach's guide to how the team plays; read it together.
  4. Turn on notifications with the button in the Who are you? box if you want chat messages to reach this device. iPhone and iPad need the Home Screen step first.

Every week

  1. Your player's page on the Team tab now also shows their goals from the coach (with how they are going) and, where the team uses the fair playing-time clock, their minutes on the court this season.
  2. Plays to learn. If the coach has put a play into a training, a πŸ€ Play to learn button sits under that training on the Team tab. Tap it to watch the animation; choose One step at a time under the court to go through it slowly. Your player's jersey number may appear on the circles.
  3. Say if you are coming. Under each training or game tap πŸ‘ Going, πŸ€” Maybe or ❌ Can't make it. Going to all ticks every upcoming training in one go. The coach checks this list before every session, and if you haven't replied you'll get a reminder at 5 pm the day before.
  4. Scoring. Each game shows πŸ–Š Scorers (2 per game). Tap We can score to volunteer; Can't score after all if plans change. Some teams use an automatic roster, in which case your turn just appears.
  5. Your player's page. If the coach has turned it on, a ⭐ card shows your player's attendance, the coach's latest skill ratings, a note from the coach, and a column where the player rates themselves 1 to 5. It is a conversation starter, not a test.
  6. Use the chat for lifts, running late and questions everyone shares. Type under Team chat and tap Send. Each training and game has its own comments too. The coach's messages are highlighted.
  7. Check the notices. Anything pinned at the top of the Team tab is from the coach or the club: what to bring, a change of venue, a reminder.

Chat manners

It is a team space that every family and player can read. Keep it to team matters, and never post phone numbers, addresses, photos of children or anything private. Anything personal for the coach goes by email or a phone call. The coach can remove any message. On junior teams the chat may be for parents and guardians only; players can read along.

Your privacy

The page shows first names and initials only. Your email address stays in the coach's private account and is used only for the team page link, chat copies and reminders. It never appears on the page. Under 18? Use the page with a parent or guardian.

Nothing showing or link not working?

Reload the page. If it still says the page is unavailable, ask the coach to send the link again; they may have issued a new one.

Clubs and associations: one place for all your teams

Full club & administrator guide β†’

A club plan covers a set number of coach seats. Club administrators see every club team, who coaches it, whether the team page is live, and each coach's accreditation status if they choose to share it. Coaches keep their own drill library and private notebooks; those never belong to the club.

Getting set up

  1. Jumpball creates the club, names the club administrator and sets the number of coach seats.
  2. The administrator adds coaches from the club page with + Add a coach (first name, sign-in email, coach or club administrator), or creates a club join code and gives it to coaches.
  3. Coaches sign up as normal. With a code, they go to More β†’ πŸ› Club, enter the code and their first name, and take a seat straight away.
  4. When the seats are full, the club removes a coach first or contacts Jumpball at admin@jumpball.com.au for more seats.

For coaches in a club

  1. Open the team, then Team settings, then Club / association team. Pick the club and tap Link to club.
  2. Read the warning before confirming: the club's administrators can see and edit everything on that team (players, plans, reviews, chat) and can hand it to another coach. Your drill library and private notebook are not shared. Only the club can undo the link.
  3. Afterwards Home shows πŸ› [Club] team, the team switcher shows the club badge, and the club's notices appear at the top of your team page above your own. If the club has default non-negotiables, new club teams start with them.
  4. If the club set up a team for you, it appears in your app the first time you open it.

For club administrators

  1. Tap the team name at the top and choose your club under Clubs and associations you administer. Home also shows a πŸ› Your club card when no team is selected.
  2. The club page shows seat use, the join code, Club teams (coach, players, sessions done, team page status; tap one to open it exactly as the coach sees it), and Coaches with first name, email, role, when they last opened the app, and accreditation badges where shared. Edit changes a coach's name or role; Remove frees their seat.
  3. + Set up a team for a coach creates a club team with the club's non-negotiables. Choose the coach, or run it yourself for now. A coach who hasn't signed up yet gets it the first time they open the app.
  4. Club notices: tap + Notice and Save club settings. They show, prefixed πŸ›, at the top of every club team's page. Default non-negotiables seed new club teams.
  5. On any club team, Team settings offers Hand to another coach, Take it over myself, and Release from the club. A team you've taken over or set up keeps Hand to a coach, so you can pass it on later.

The club agreement, in short

  • Club teams belong to the club; coaches' notebooks, drills and accreditation records are excluded.
  • Only club administrators can release a team.
  • The club is responsible for safeguarding, privacy practice and checking Working With Children clearances. Jumpball records accreditation names and dates only and is not a verification service.
  • Data can be exported for 30 days after a plan ends. Billing is in Australian dollars including GST; cancel from More, Manage billing.
